The Unshifted Librarian?

So much to post, but so little time. I'm headed to the Illinois Library Association Conference after all, so I'll be there tomorrow through Friday. Normally I would still read my aggregator at night and try to keep up with email and work issues but unbelievably, the Renaissance Hotel in Springfield (a Marriott property in the middle of the state capital, mind you) does not offer high-speed internet access in its rooms, even though their web page says it does.

I'm not complaining that there's no WiFi (well, I am, sort of), but no wired access in the rooms?? The front desk helpfully told me I could use the business center for a mere $10 per half hour. Of course, the Hilton across the street has high-speed access, but they're booked solid. No wonder there were rooms available at the Renaissance!

So I figured I'd just be spending a heck of lot of time at Starbucks, but apparently there aren't any in Springfield. Nor is there a Panera, and McDonald's doesn't let you narrow your search to hotspots. I also can't find any hotspots listed for Springfield in any of the WiFi directories I've looked at, including JIWire.

If I can get in a hotel with high-speed access, you'll be hearing from me before Monday. If not, enjoy the time off. And if you'll be at the conference, especially if you're attending the panel on wireless (Thursday morning) or my presentation about blogging (Friday morning), please be sure to come up and say hi!
