After browsing through the computer books and picking a few, I headed to the circulation desk, where I was able to sit down with a staff member as he completed my transactions. I told him I needed to get a library card, and he said, "Great, I just need to see an ID." I handed him my driver's license and fished around in my pocket for the two bills I'd brought. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor when he handed me my new card without ever asking for or looking at the extra proof. Apparently, Downers Grove PL only requires one form of ID with your address on it. I'm so used to other libraries requiring DNA samples, notarized statements, and promises for firstborn children that I couldn't believe my ears. Afterwards, I realized I could also have filled out an online application ahead of time. From the patron side, what a pleasure. Thanks, DGPL! |
