Midwinter Madness

Things I'm learning at my first ALA Midwinter Meeting as a staff member.

  • Yes, there is wireless in the public areas of the convention center. Hooray!
  • You can pick up a "blogger" ribbon at the TechSource booth (#1713) starting at 5:30 p.m. today. I think we're the last conference on earth to offer these, but they're finally here! Don't forget you can also take a break from your day and play Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) and Guitar Hero at the TechSource/American Libraries booth.
  • The new "Read Write Connect" wiki that lists all of ALA's blogs, wikis, RSS feeds, podcasts, Flickr accounts, videos, etc. is now live at http://wikis.ala.org/readwriteconnect/ . The resources listed on it are probably the best way to keep up with current news and media coming out of the Meeting. It's also the link behind the "RSS Wikis Blogs" graphics on the ALA home page now (and the graphic will change to match the new name soon).
  • I'm learning a lot about what goes into putting together a booth for an exhibit floor. I'm chronicling my experience as a staff member attending her first Midwinter Meeting at http://flickr.com/photos/alastaff/sets/72157594487945377/.
  • Addendum: I forgot to note that for those not attending the big Meeting, you can see the pictures that will be in each day's CogNotes on the ALA flickstream. They're real pictures, way more professional than mine. ;-)
So far I'm having a blast. Stop by Saturday morning's OCLC panel on social software, come by the TechSource booth, or trip me in the hall or on the street to say hi!
