« July 19, 2007 | Main | July 23, 2007 » Still More Symposium Fun - Werewolf and MoreIf you're interested in playing some games Saturday night (July 21), meet Scott Nicholson in the lobby of the Mariott at 7:00 p.m. Bring your favorites, or just play what he brings, including the big-group game of Werewolf. I'm hoping to be there, as I've always wanted to play Werewolf myself. Addendum: If you have a video camera we could use to record sessions on Monday and Tuesday, please let me know. Thanks! Bring Your DS to the Symposium and Fantasy Library StandardsFirst, another quick note - Paul Waelchli has proposed additional Nintendo DS play at the open gaming at the TechSource Gaming and Libraries Symposium Sunday night (July 22), so if you have a DS, bring it! He'll also bring a few of his own so that you can play if you don't have one. More info on the TourneyRegistration page (even though you don't need to register for this). I'm thrilled Paul is coming to the Symposium, because earlier this month he declared Fantasy Sports to be the National Librarian Sport. Why? Because "the successful fantasy sport player consistently applies 4 of the 5 ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards." Yes, that's right - Paul mapped the skills necessary to play fantasy football with the Association of College & Research Libraries Information Literacy Standards and afterwards he concluded, "At this level of information literacy integration and the length of the seasons (lasting at least 5 months), how can this not be the information literacy librarians sport of choice."
It's a great list, so be sure to read the whole thing. It ties in nicely with the points Steven Johnson makes in Everything Bad Is Good for You, and it illustrates why gaming can be so rewarding for libraries. |
