Mobile market to reach 2 billion by 2008

"According to a new report from Baskerville, the global mobile market is set to expand by over 800 million customers by 2010, reaching the 2 billion mark in 2008.

India and China are predicted to drive much of the growth along with other Asian markets, with 60% of all new customers coming from the region and 80% of these in the two countries. The smaller markets of Africa and the Middle East will see the most explosive growth, although on a smaller scale, with their markets doubling, providing 100 million new customers by 2010.

The USA, having settled on a variety of cellular standards, will contribute 66 million customers by 2006, cementing its development, while 3G will also make a big impact, both in America and elsewhere: 250 million people will be using 3G services by 2007, which is 10% of the world's cellular users. By 2010, over half a billion customers will be using 3G services." [infoSync World]
